Homage to a squirrel ~

Quizzical squirrel this
is the third time
you have squirreled
onto my veranda ~
which cadent verse
of Valmiki
are you ruminating on
or do you have some
mystery tale of light
to tell me in
sacred tongues ~

tiny droplets of dew
on your spreading
whiskers
your tawny-grey
breathing form
of fur
your curve-contours
of oblong flocculence
your overgrown
mottle-grey tail
flurrying
your eye globules
of gleaming wonder ~
ah! what beholds them?
emperor of freedom
your biography
is sacred history
epiphany of
mythogramatical lines
sinusoidal epigraphs
in whimsical time ~

flipping floating faltering
you are bouncing jumping slithering
sliding skirting squirreling
onto my window loaded
with the mystery joy
of some strange secret
squirrelly-dreams
rodent-hierograms
arboreal memories
the great squirridael heritage
seasoned by
Raama’a fingerprints of
thanks giving ~

Now on your rump
your little legs turn
into little hands
inhaling exhaling
you are breathing
(like me)
and you seem happy
with the ageless discovery ~
scratching shuddering squealing
wondering
you are on your dancing way
slipping wobbling
squirreling away ~
on the sunny breeze on grass
you pause
find something
to nibble upon
then turn towards me
intonate
impeccable tingle tangling
rodent melograms ~
before I could gather
your singsong melodies
you blast
a perfect crescendo
squirrel-cleave out
of my vision
to the point
of no return
beckoned by
an invisible mission ~

Notes ~

Vaalmiki ~ Sage Vaalmiki Of Indian Mythology ~ The Author Of Raamaayana The Great Hindu Epic which describes the life of King Raama’s who was an Avatar of Vishnu [The All Pervasive Lord] ~

Raama’s fingerprints ~ Raama and the Vaanara Sena [The army Of Monkeys] led by Hanuman were constructing a bridge between Rameshwaram and Sri Lanka to recover his beloved spouse Sita from Raavana the Raakshasa [a demonic being] who had abducted her and held her captive ~ This refers to the tale of a squirrel who wanted do his little bit to the building of the bridge ~ He would immerse himself in waters come ashore soak himself in sand again immerse himself in the ocean ~ Lord Rama pleased strokes the squirrel with his three fingers ~ It is believed that all the squirrels got this as a birth mark from this event ~ I am told that the squirrels in Africa do not have these lines
